HiOil level warning comes on my BRE engined A4 unless oil a little (or a lot !) above max (this is oil level warning not oil pressure). Wife has discovered that overfilling it by about 0.5 L turns warning off for a while and constantly trying to stop her doing just that. Pressurebypass on the filter shouldn't be visible/separatedbut it also won't affect engine oil pressure since that is controlled by a separate oil pressure relief valve in/on/near the oil pump. Use a better filter, OEM or Mann. At least you got to take the filter apart and viz the quality/appearance of the bits.

Turnsout the location is different for the S5 compared to the RS4-RS5. For the S5 the oil pressure switch is located at the front of the engine. You have to remove the radiator to get to it. For anyone interested here's a screenshot below. I'll keep the forum posted to see if this will have fixed the issue. Thanks.

TheB5's oil pressure warning system IS NOT ACTIVE at hot idle. Once the coolant temp is over 60C you could literally pull the drain plug and watch the motor seize up before you ever got a pressure warning. The oil pressure switch position is not considered for warning criteria until above 1500 rpm. Thisis the low engine oil level warning and as the light is intermittent it may be a faulty sensor but I would get it quickly checked. There is also a red warning light which is the low engine oil pressure. If this comes on switch off the engine straight away and get it diagnosed. Whatever get it checked out.
